Child & Youth Social-Emotional Assessment

A social-emotional assessment addresses areas of social, emotional, or behavioural functioning in children and youth. It includes an interview with the primary caregiver(s), a formal and informal evaluation of the child or youth’s emotional well-being and social development, and contact with other informants (such as a social worker, daycare worker, teacher, or extended family member).

The written report includes a diagnosis (if appropriate), but more importantly it pinpoints areas to address in therapy and skills the child could develop, along with recommendations for parents and teachers.

What the assessment includes

We often conduct social-emotional assessments alongside psychoeducational assessments, which allows us to rule out learning or cognitive causes for behavioural or emotional difficulties
