This week on Wellness Wednesday, we are exploring vulnerability.

Vulnerability is defined as “the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally.” Reading this definition helps us understand why there is sometimes so much anxiety behind opening up to someone emotionally. Vulnerability’s flip side is connection; as Gabor Mate alludes to, without vulnerability, we cannot connect with others.

How do we work on vulnerability, when working on it requires us to step out and be exposed? Baby steps. Start with small goals related to vulnerability – maybe this means setting a time to make that phone call you’ve been putting off, or reaching out to someone via email/messenger because it’s a bit easier for you than having an in person conversation. It’s okay to take small steps, as these small steps add up to leaps and bounds over time.

Vulnerability takes courage, be kind to yourself with each baby step you take.
