Patricia is a Licensed Counselling Therapist – Candidate (LCT-C) with the College of Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (CCTNB) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), with a master’s degree in creative arts therapy.
As a creative arts therapist, Patricia utilizes creative processes involving drama, art, music, movement, storytelling, and play to help individuals reduce anxiety and hypersensitivity, to express and process difficult emotions such as anger, sadness, loss, and grief, and to increase emotion-regulation skills, social skills, cognitive flexibility, and self-esteem. She seeks to foster a collaborative therapeutic environment in which creative activities are selected and adapted based on the specific needs of each individual. While creative arts therapy is an appropriate and effective therapeutic modality for individuals of any age, Patricia’s primary focus is working with children and youth with cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, as well as working with adults with developmental disabilities.
Patricia’s approach to facilitating creative arts therapy with children is also highly influenced by principles of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) – in which play is utilized as the main vehicle toward expression, communication, processing, and healing. Patricia sets out to create a warm and accepting therapeutic environment for children, in which they are welcomed to express and explore complex and difficult emotions (no matter how big these emotions might be) and move through the therapeutic process at their own pace. With an utmost respect for each child’s inner knowledge regarding what they need to move toward healing, Patricia seeks to create a therapeutic environment that fosters autonomy and helps each child recognize and build their personal strengths and sense of self-worth.
Patricia is available for individual counselling for children (ages 4-10), as well as adults with developmental disabilities. She offers sessions in person or by video.
