Jill has a Master of Education in Counselling from the University of New Brunswick. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Licensed Counselling Therapist Candidate with the College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick. Jill recently completed education from the Maritime Play Therapy Centre and is working toward her certification as a Play Therapist with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy. Jill was a teacher at the Elementary school level for seventeen years and is currently working as a School Counsellor with Anglophone School District – South. She has supported students, who have experienced anxiety, grief, separation, trauma, depression and self-esteem issues.
Jill’s approach is a client-centered prescriptive play therapy that is developmentally appropriate for children and adolescents. She incorporates the therapeutic powers of play in her practice to help clients resolve their difficulties and gain an understanding about their feelings and life situations allowing the client to achieve positive change. Every individual is unique, therefore interventions are adapted to meet the client’s personal needs. Jill utilizes evidence-based play therapy techniques that include sandtray, puppets, games, creative arts, and bibliotherapy to help clients increase their personal strengths, foster emotional wellness, facilitate communication, and enhance their social relationships. Jill aims to create a respectful, sensitive, inclusive, understanding and empathetic environment that will foster a trusting relationship with her clients.
