Maternal Mental Health

On Wellness Wednesday, we are highlighting Maternal Mental Health Week. Did you know that postpartum depression and anxiety (PPD/PPA) are the most common complications of childbirth? In Canada, 1 in 4 of new mothers are diagnosed with PPD/PPA (Statistics Canada, 2019).

There is a lot of work to be done in this area of practice, but know there are resources available to support you. The Postpartum Stress Center is an excellent online resource headed by Karen Kleiman, a perinatal mental health professional and author. Seeking support for postpartum mental health issues is incredibly important. PPD/PPA robs you of being able to be present with your child and “enjoy every moment”, as they say. If someone you know is dealing with postpartum mental health issues, do not shy away from talking about it with them.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our team for support in this area.
