Adult Gender Dysphoria Assessment

Gender dysphoria is described as the significant amount of distress a person experiences as a result of the mismatch between their gender identity and their sex assigned at birth.

Persons are required in most provinces to receive a diagnosis of gender dysphoria in order to pursue hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This can be provided by a doctor, psychiatrist, or a licensed psychologist. This type of assessment involves: an extensive review of the client’s background, the administration of various questionnaires, a structured clinical interview and a diagnosis (if appropriate) along with treatment recommendations.

This type of assessment may be used to evaluate adults who are displaying:
  • a strong desire to be rid of one’s primary and/or secondary sex characteristics due to a mismatch with one’s experienced/expressed gender
  • a strong desire for the primary and/or secondary sex characteristics of the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s assigned gender)
  • a strong desire to be of the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s assigned gender)
  • a strong conviction that one has the typical feelings and reactions of the other gender (or some alternative gender different from one’s assigned gender)

The fee for Gender Dysphoria testing is $2000
